You should not tie up your money up on ever changing camera and/or video equipment. Instead, rent the necessary equipment in order to fulfill your photo assignments. Rent from your local professional camera store.
Good luck!

With the Nikon D300 and lenses necessary to operate a business in photography (and suitable computer .... add another $2000) will cost the least to capitalize your business.
The cost of setting up a video post production facility can cost up tp $25,000 and unless you have a lot of experience using the software, years of experience until you can start producing complete videos in reasonable time periods to make the whole enterprise profitable.
It all comes back to your business plan and how your skill sets match the business demands.
There is a huge difference between shooting still photos for a client and then after doing a final edit (sort) of the shoot, turning them over to the client for their use with an invoice that covers the per/day rate and usage fees (less than a few hours of post production) Shooting video entails a script, storyboarding, shot blocking, principle production of the raw footage and finally the editing of the video. This process can take weeks and the production can cost thousands a day until the project is complete.
Sit down with SCORE and have them look at your two different business and marketing plans, projected P&S worksheet (out at least 2 years) and your capitalization costs for each project.
